Week 10 & 11 - 1/4 Scale Midget Mustang Build

30 August - 9 September 2007

(Above) The replacement fibreglass spat with carbon fibre tows as reinforcement.

I started reducing weight by remaking the spats from glass - cut the weight from 56g each to 38g for both.

(Above) The replacement and original spats..

I also cut out all the weight I could from the fuse by enlarging the lightening holes in the frames etc. The original rear servo mount was also carved away. All the servos were moved right up to the firewall.

(Above) The elevator servo alongside the tank.
The rudder servo is below the elevator servo.
I laid up a fibreglass battery tube to get the batteries as far forward as possible. The oval hole in the firewall in the battery tube. It extends forward to just behind the baffle in the cowl.
(Above) The receiver in a foam mount and the switch just behind the firewall.
I
(Above) The throttle servo and linkage.
The throttle servo is mounted in a recess in the engine box. The pushrod is 2mm threaded rod covered in tight-fitting carbon fibre tube.

(Above and below) The engine, throttle linkage and battery box with remote glow and battery charger socket (fuse is upside down in the picture).
I added a 2.5mm ply L-shaped bracket below the battery box to serve as a mount for the remote glow plug and the battery charge socket.

My DDC is no ready to fly - just waiting for the right day. Wish me luck!
